In Geometry, students will learn a more visual branch of mathematics. The year will start by identifying the geometry in nature and art, and taking the time to define geometry as well as the reasoning strategies that are the foundation to geometric theorems and conjectures. The class will then transition into Euclidean geometry, which includes fundamental concepts such as points, lines, planes, and angles. We will continue into two-dimension geometry (and discrete geometry) as we learn about triangles, polygons, and circles, as well as their properties and applications with area. At the end of the year, two-dimensional concepts will guide the pathway to explore three-dimensional geometry. If time permits, we will introduce trigonometric concepts. Throughout the course, students will use geometry tools, such as protractors, compasses, and straightedges to construct geometric figures.
Suggested Grade 10-12
Suggested Age 14-18
Algebra 2 focuses on graphing, interpreting, and transforming functions, including linear functions, absolute value functions, quadratic functions, polynomial functions, exponential functions, logarithmic functions, rational functions, and trigonometric functions. Pre-Calculus combines the topics of Algebra and Geometry to extend students understanding of the concepts in preparation of a high school or college level Calculus class. Topics include understanding algebraic functions, polynomial functions, exponential functions, and logarithmic functions. Students will also study applications of trigonometry and trigonometric identities/equations. Students will examine more advanced systems of equations and utilize matrices in solving. In addition to content mastery, the course goals are to further develop students’ problem solving and critical thinking skills.
Suggested Grade 8-10

World Geography is an introductory social studies course that examines the relationships between humans, places, and environments. This course is ideal for students who have no prior experience studying detailed geography.
Students will learn about the physical geography of the Earth, including natural processes and patterns that shape the natural environment. Students will also examine the history of human geography as they study the change in populations, cultures, and economies. Students will then analyze the effects of humans on the environment in integrated geography.
As part of the course, students will create a resource book, detailing all the major concepts learned throughout the year. These student-made portfolios will allow the students to embrace the material while exercising their creativity.
